A ‘Digital Twin Ocean’ is planned as part of the European Green Deal and the European Digital Strategy, and as part of a wider ambition to deliver a Digital Twin Earth under the ‘Destination Earth’ Initiative.
BIDS Research Affiliate Neil Davies was invited to present at the 7th European Marine Board Forum, which was held in Brussels on 23 October 2020 on the theme of “Big Data in Marine Science: supporting the European Green Deal, the EU Biodiversity Strategy, and the Digital Twin Ocean”.
Davies' talk -- Digital Twin Ocean: Island Digital Ecosystem Avatars (IDEAS) for Sustainability -- considered the Digital Twin approach at the scale of social-ecological systems, reflected on experiences learned in the Moorea Island Digital Ecosystem Avatar initiative, and proposed a vision for future developments.
